Healthcare systems around the world are facing a growing shortage of workers, raising concerns about the future of medical care.

Doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals are in high demand, but many systems are struggling to recruit and retain staff. Factors such as burnout, workload and ageing populations are contributing to the problem.

Organisations including the World Health Organization have warned that shortages could affect the quality and accessibility of healthcare services.

In many countries, healthcare workers report high levels of stress and fatigue, particularly following the strain of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Governments are exploring solutions such as training more professionals, improving working conditions and using technology to support staff.

Automation and artificial intelligence may help reduce administrative workloads, allowing healthcare workers to focus more on patient care.

However, experts caution that technology cannot fully replace human expertise and interaction in healthcare.

The challenge is not only increasing the number of workers, but also ensuring that healthcare systems are sustainable and resilient.

As demand for healthcare continues to grow, workforce issues are likely to become one of the most critical factors shaping the future of global health.
