Hertfordshire Police stated that the man, who was detained last month, has been released on bail pending further investigation.
A BBC spokesperson told BBC News: “It would not be appropriate to comment on an ongoing police investigation.”
According to The Sun, the man is accused of raping a woman following a BBC-related event. The publication reports that the woman was not a contestant or a professional dancer on the programme, but had met the man through his involvement in the competition.
The arrest is understood to be unrelated to the current series of Strictly.
In a statement, Hertfordshire Police said: “A man was released on police bail under investigation after being arrested in London on Monday 13 October on suspicion of rape.”
The force added that the allegations concern an incident that took place in Hertfordshire.
“Inquiries by officers from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Public Protection team remain ongoing,” the statement continued. “Given the nature of the allegations, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
The development follows a separate case involving another man connected to the BBC dance series, who was arrested in August on suspicion of rape. The Metropolitan Police said that individual was also suspected of “non-consensual intimate image abuse.” His role within the programme has not been disclosed.
Strictly Come Dancing, which has aired since 2004 and is primarily filmed at Elstree Studios, has faced several controversies in recent years related to the conduct of certain professional dancers and celebrity participants.
Last year, the show came under scrutiny due to allegations involving two professional dancers.
Giovanni Pernice denied claims of abusive or threatening behaviour during rehearsals made by his former dance partner Amanda Abbington, and later exited the show.
Graziano Di Prima’s spokesperson acknowledged that the dancer had kicked his 2023 partner Zara McDermott once during rehearsals—an act he described as a mistake and for which he apologised. He has also since left the programme.
Separately, the BBC launched an internal investigation earlier this year into alleged drug use by two unnamed Strictly stars.
In August, the Metropolitan Police confirmed it was examining allegations of drug use connected to the show.
