Global pop star Billie Eilish and acclaimed director James Cameron have joined forces for a new 3D concert film capturing the singer’s performances in Manchester during her Hit Me Hard And Soft world tour.
The project was filmed across four nights at the Co-op Live arena, marking the biggest tour of Eilish’s career so far. The finished film promises an immersive experience, combining large-scale concert visuals with intimate behind-the-scenes footage.
Speaking at the London premiere, Eilish praised the Manchester crowd, calling them one of her favourite audiences and saying she “fricking loves Manchester”. Fans travelled from across the UK for the event, gathering in large numbers around Leicester Square to catch a glimpse of the singer.
Cameron joked that the same level of excitement had not greeted him when the crowd erupted as Eilish arrived.
The collaboration reportedly began after Cameron’s wife, Suzy, suggested the idea. She knows Eilish’s mother, Maggie Baird, through shared environmental activism.
Eilish said she was surprised to receive an email from the filmmaker proposing a 3D concert movie, adding that she had never considered such a concept before.
The production used compact new 3D cameras designed to capture the singer at close range, even during high-energy moments when she ran across the stage.
Cameron said Eilish’s fans are central to the film, describing them as their own character within the story. Throughout the movie, fans explain how her music helped them feel accepted, safe and understood during difficult periods in their lives.
Eilish said working with Cameron changed the way she viewed the project, helping her see it as a cinematic experience rather than simply a live show.
Cameron added that the film may offer something even different from attending a concert in person, as audiences will be taken backstage to witness vocal warm-ups, make-up preparation and pre-show moments not usually seen by fans.
The director also argued that live performance remains especially valuable in an age of artificial intelligence, when audiences can no longer always be certain whether what they are seeing is real.
Eilish also reflected on a recent surprise moment at Coachella, where Justin Bieber joined her on stage and serenaded her with One Less Lonely Girl. She described the moment as deeply emotional, adding that it had been organised by Hailey Bieber.
When asked about her fourth studio album, Eilish gave little away, smiling and saying only: “We’ll see.”
Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) is scheduled for release on 7 May 2026.
