The Israeli military has ordered a criminal investigation into the killing of Hind Rajab, a six-year-old Palestinian girl whose death in Gaza City in January 2024 drew international condemnation.
Hind was travelling with seven family members in a vehicle that came under Israeli fire, according to the report. Several relatives were killed in the attack, while Hind initially survived.
She spent hours speaking by telephone with paramedics before her body was recovered days later. The bodies of her relatives and two paramedics who had attempted to reach her in an ambulance were also recovered.
Military police inquiry
The Israel Defense Forces said its decision followed a review of the incident’s findings. It said the inquiry would be conducted by the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division.
According to the IDF statement, the decision was linked to alleged failures in coordinating the movement of the Palestine Red Crescent ambulance. The source did not provide further details on the scope of the investigation or any findings.
